Dan Jones
Dan Jones is a multi award-winning composer and sound designer working in film, television, theatre and the arts.
His scores include On Chesil Beach, The Miniaturist, Any Human Heart and The Outlaws. He has won three Ivor Novello Awards and a BAFTA for his film work, and an Ivors Classical Award for Sound Art, along with numerous other nominations.
Across film, television and theatre, Dan he has been fortunate to work with some of the greatest actors in the world including Florence Pugh, Anya Taylor-Joy, Adrien Brody, Penélope Cruz, Saoirse Ronan, Matthew Macfadyen, Christopher Walken, John Malkovich, Willem Dafoe, Lesley Manville, Hayley Atwell, Jim Broadbent, Dominic West, Sean Bean, Jessica Gunning, Benedict Cumberbatch, Judy Dench, Hugh Bonneville, Michael Gambon, Peter Mullan, Vicky McClure, Imelda Staunton, Jason Watkins, John Cusack, Vanessa Redgrave, Stanley Tucci, Maxine Peake, Jonathan Pryce, Ian McKellen and many many more.
Behind the camera, Dan has worked with some of the world's best directors, editors, producers and writers, including Paul Carlin, Dominic Cooke, Sam Mendes, William Oldroyd, Michael Attenborough, Polly Findlay, Tom and Mark Espiner, Dominic Hill, Marianne Eliott, Hattie Naylor, Nicholas Cage, Menno Meyjes, Stephen Merchant, Michael Samuels, William Boyd, E. Elias Merhige, Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, Ian McEwan, Peter Morgan, Tim Robbins, Yann Demange, Ben Power, Charlie Brooker and Paweł Pawlikowski.
Dan's particular interest in spatial audio is notable in his many large scale multichannel sound and music artworks such as the award-winning Each Tiny Drop, The Conversation and Sky Orchestra, as well as theatre works including the NT's Treasure Island, Kursk, Going Dark and Charlie Ward.
He was Head of Music and Sound at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and has delivered music and sound for other large scale events including two Paralympic Heritage Flame ceremonies, Hull 2017 and Coventry 2021 City of Culture opening events.
He read music at the University of Oxford, studied contemporary music theatre at the Banff Centre for the Arts, and electro-acoustic composition and programming at the Centro Ricerche Musicali in Rome. Having explored various means of generating music algorithmically, he is the author of one of the earliest pieces of software for generating fractal or self-similar music.

Dan collaborates with world class musicians and creatives to deliver every kind of project.
Simon Birch - Simon has worked closely with Dan since 2015, primarily as a music editor, but his myriad roles also include orchestration, music preparation, recording and research. Shared credits include the Ivor Novello Award-winning score to The Miniaturist, the Ivor Novello-nominated scores to SS-GB and The Outlaws, as well as the Oscar and Grierson Award-nominated documentary film Bobi Wine: The People's President.
Stew Jackson - Best known as a producer for Massive Attack (Paradise Circus, Saturday Come Slow), Stew co-composed with Dan the Ivor Novello Award-nominated music for Stephen Merchant's The Outlaws. He has also featured on projects such as Louis Theroux's My Scientology Movie, Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony, Dark Heart and The Fear. Alongside Grant Marshall (AKA Daddy G) Dan and Stew wrote The Spoils (ft. Hope Sandoval) for Massive Attack.
Dame Evelyn Glennie - Dan co-composed the score to Code of Silence with Dame Evelyn, the world's leading solo percussionist.
Elizabeth Purnell - A friend and collaborator for many years, Liz has produced brilliant orchestrations for projects such as The Hollow Crown, SS-GB, Dark Heart and World On Fire. She also wrote the march and fanfare for the Commonwealth Games flag-raising ceremony at Birmingham 2022.
Esther Yoo - Dan worked with Deutsche Grammophon solo violinist Esther when recording music for On Chesil Beach, both for the original score and the featured classical music. Dan subsequently performed pieces from the soundtrack with Esther in Korea.
BBC National Orchestra of Wales - Dan has recorded with BBC NOW for projects including On Chesil Beach, The Hollow Crown, Shadow of the Vampire, SS-GB and Westwood: Punk, Icon, Activist.
John Parricelli - Dan has employed John's brilliant guitar playing on projects such as the BAFTA-winning score to Any Human Heart, the Ivor Novello Award-winning score to The Miniaturist, and the Oscar and Grierson Award-nominated documentary film Bobi Wine: The People's President.
